Privacy policy for Shelf

Last updated: 4 September 2026

The short version

Shelf has no server and no account. It cannot receive your data, because there is nowhere for your data to go.

What Shelf reads

To make your conversations searchable, Shelf reads your conversation list and message text from ChatGPT and Claude. It does this inside your browser, on the site you are already signed into, using your existing session.

Where that data goes

Into your own browser, and nowhere else.

Nothing is uploaded. There is no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising identifier, and no third-party script anywhere in the extension.

What leaves your machine

Exactly one thing, and only if you buy Pro: when you paste a licence key into Settings and press Activate, that key is sent to Gumroad to check it is valid. The request contains the licence key and the product id. It contains none of your conversations, folders, or anything else. If you never buy Pro, no network request is ever made by this extension.

What Shelf never touches

Your password, your session cookie, your payment details, your email address (unless Gumroad returns it with your own licence), and any site other than chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com and claude.ai.

Deleting your data

Settings has an “Erase Shelf data” button that clears folders, bookmarks and settings. Removing the extension from Chrome deletes the local index with it. Your actual conversations in ChatGPT and Claude are never modified or deleted by Shelf.

Selling data

Shelf does not sell or transfer user data to third parties, does not use it for any purpose unrelated to the extension’s single function, and does not use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
